Florida’s Top Rated Impact and Non-Impact Window & Door Replacement Experts
In a state where every storm tests the strength of your home, Direct Remodels was founded on a simple promise — to protect what matters most. As Florida’s top-rated window replacement and installation company, we’ve made it our mission to bring peace of mind to homeowners with hurricane-rated impact windows and doors that combine beauty, performance, & lasting value.
Impact Certified
Made in the USA, our windows are manufactured with unique multilayer glass, bonded together with an interlayer material. This interlayer helps the glass resist breaking and shattering when impacted by objects such as rocks, golf balls, and even bullets. Impact-resistant glass can also be used in windows and doors to provide additional protection against intruders. Eliminate the need for shutters or storm panels and maintain your home’s appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on where you live and how much of your home you are changing. Florida has some of the strictest building codes in the country because of hurricanes. In the High Velocity Hurricane Zone (Miami-Dade and Broward counties), replacement windows have to meet the toughest impact standards. Across most of the rest of coastal Florida, including Tampa Bay, you are in a wind-borne debris region, where impact-rated products or approved shutters are required on new and replacement openings. There is also a practical rule many counties follow: once you replace more than about a quarter of your glazed openings, the whole project generally has to meet current impact code, so piecemeal swaps usually do not get you around it. Codes and enforcement vary by county, so your design consultant confirms exactly what applies to your address, and we pull the permits.
Both can protect your home, and both can earn you the same wind mitigation insurance credit, so the real difference is how they live with you day to day. Shutters cost less up front, but you have to put them up before every storm and take them down after, which is a problem if you travel or a system forms quickly. They also cover your windows, so your home goes dark when they are closed. Impact windows are always working. There is nothing to deploy and nothing to store, and your view and natural light stay exactly as they are. They also add everyday benefits shutters do not, like year-round intruder resistance, energy efficiency, and quieter rooms. For most homeowners staying in their home long term, impact windows are the more convenient choice, though shutters remain a reasonable option on a tighter budget.
Price depends on the number of windows, the styles you choose, the frame material, and the size of your openings, so there is no single sticker number. What we can tell you is that buying manufacturer-direct and doing the work in house lets us keep our pricing competitive. We also make the upfront cost easier to manage with $0 down, no payments until your project is finished to your satisfaction, and financing options subject to approval. Many homeowners find the monthly payment is partly offset by what they save on insurance and energy once the new windows are in. Your design consultant gives you exact, itemized pricing during your free in-home estimate.
Most projects run on a clear timeline. It starts with your free in-home estimate, about an hour, where we measure and price everything. Once you move forward, your windows are custom-built to your exact openings and to Florida code, which typically takes a few weeks (we have one of the fastest lead times in the state). In parallel, we pull your permit. Installation itself is usually quick, often a day or two depending on how many windows you have, and a final inspection confirms everything meets code. Because we handle the permitting and inspection coordination in house, you are not managing any of that paperwork yourself.
An impact window is more than thicker glass. It is two panes bonded to a tough plastic interlayer, similar to a car windshield. When something strikes it, the glass may crack, but the interlayer holds the pieces together so the opening stays sealed against wind and rain. That glass sits in a reinforced frame engineered to handle hurricane-force pressure, and the whole unit is tested and certified as a system. That is what separates a true impact window from an ordinary one that happens to look similar.
The Direct Advantage
At Direct Remodels, everything we do is streamlined for your convenience.
By working directly with trusted manufacturers and handling every installation ourselves, we eliminate the middleman—and the delays that come with it.
We buy factory-direct from the manufacturers who build our products, including Viwinco, ES Windows, and Eastern Architectural Systems for windows, and BHI and Plastpro for doors. No middleman, no reseller markup. Buying direct is how we keep pricing competitive and control quality all the way from the factory to your home.
